The Cost of Family Mediation
Cost is one of the most common concerns for people considering family mediation — and one of the biggest reasons so many choose it over court. This page explains what mediation typically costs, how those costs compare to court, and how funding can reduce what you pay, using Digital MIAM's actual, transparent pricing.
What affects the cost
The cost of mediation depends on the issues involved (children, finances, or both), the number of sessions needed, and whether any specialist support is required. Because everything at Digital MIAM is delivered online, we keep overheads — and therefore fees — among the lowest in the industry, without compromising on quality.
The cost of a MIAM
A MIAM is usually the first step. At Digital MIAM, our Standard MIAM is £95 per person, conducted by video call, with a certificate issued within around four days and the relevant court form (such as the C100 or Form A) included free on request. If you are working to a deadline, our Fast Track MIAM is £135 per person and is typically completed the same day, with the certificate issued within 24 hours. Some people may also qualify for legal aid, which can cover the cost of a MIAM.
The cost of mediation sessions
If you go on to mediation, joint mediation sessions are charged from £130 per hour per person, with a typical session lasting around one and a half hours. Specialist mediation — including child-inclusive, neurodiverse, and complex asset mediation — is available from £160 per hour per person. Every mediation package includes a free three-month post check-in, and shuttle and hybrid options are available.
Documents and agreements
Where you need written agreements or court documents, these are available individually: a Parenting Plan is £110, a Memorandum of Understanding £130, an Open Financial Statement £110, and a Concluding Statement £95. The C100 and Form A are £25 each, if purchased as a bundle when you pay for your MIAM (£35 if you pay after your MIAM).
How mediation compares to court
Court proceedings involve application fees, solicitor or barrister costs, and often multiple hearings over many months. Legal costs in contested cases regularly run into thousands — sometimes tens of thousands — of pounds per person, particularly in financial disputes. Mediation costs a fraction of this because discussions are focused, fewer professionals are involved, agreements are usually reached more quickly, and you retain control over the outcome. Lower cost does not mean lower quality — it reflects a fundamentally different, more efficient approach.
Funding that can help
The government's Family Mediation Voucher Scheme provides up to £500 towards mediation in eligible cases involving children, applied directly by your mediator. Legal aid may also cover the MIAM and sessions for those who qualify financially. We can discuss both at your MIAM.
Clear pricing, no surprises
We believe resolving family disputes should not come with an overwhelming financial burden. Our pricing is published and transparent, so you know what to expect before you begin. When you are ready, you can book your online MIAM from £95 in just a few minutes.
