MIAM Appointment (pre-mediation meeting) with a professional mediator
If you are preparing to submit a C100 or Form A application in Birmingham, attending a Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting (MIAM) is a legal requirement unless your situation qualifies for an exemption. Digital MIAM provides a fast, affordable and fully online MIAM service accepted by Birmingham Family Court and all courts across England and Wales.
Residents from Birmingham city centre, Edgbaston, Solihull, Handsworth, Harborne, Sutton Coldfield, Aston, or anywhere in the West Midlands can complete their MIAM online without the need to travel or take time off work. Our service operates 7 days a week and offers same-day certificate options on business days.
Birmingham is one of the largest and busiest cities in the UK, and traditional mediation services often have waiting lists. Digital MIAM allows you to avoid long delays and in-person sessions by offering:
No need to travel into Birmingham city centre, pay for parking, or sit in waiting rooms. Your MIAM takes place online via Zoom from the comfort of your home.
If you need to submit a C100 or Form A urgently, our mediators can issue your MIAM certificate on the same business day.
We offer daily and evening appointments to fit around work or childcare commitments.
Your MIAM is conducted by qualified and accredited mediators who meet the standards of the Family Mediation Council. All certificates issued are recognised by Birmingham Family Court.
Local mediation providers often charge significantly more. Digital MIAM delivers quality at an affordable price.
Your MIAM session is your space to talk - confidential, secure, and without pressure.
Your MIAM certificate is accepted at:
Birmingham Civil & Family Justice Centre
The Priory Courts
33 Bull Street
Birmingham B4 6DS
If your case is being handled here, an online MIAM from Digital MIAM is fully compliant and accepted.
Birmingham’s diverse population brings a wide range of family circumstances. Our mediators regularly support clients dealing with:
Including parenting schedules, contact arrangements, holidays, and handovers - particularly common in cases involving shift work (NHS, logistics, manufacturing etc.).
Following separation, disagreements may arise about housing, mortgages, shared equity, or financial disclosure.
Birmingham is home to many cultural backgrounds, and differences in traditions or expectations can influence family disputes.
Where safety, communication breakdowns or court deadlines are involved.
Common when one parent relocates to areas such as Wolverhampton, Coventry, or Solihull.
If your dispute involves child arrangements, you may be eligible for the government-funded £500 Mediation Voucher Scheme. The mediator will assess your eligibility during your MIAM.
Attend your MIAM from home with a qualified mediator. Fast, affordable and fully accepted by Birmingham Family Court
The first step in family mediation is the MIAM — the Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting. It's a short, private meeting between you and a qualified family mediator, not a joint session with the other person involved. If you want to apply to a family court — for example for a child arrangements order — you'll usually need a MIAM certificate before the court will accept your application. And if you both decide to go ahead with mediation, each of you attends your own MIAM first.

On completing your MIAM, if your mediator deems mediation to be unsuitable in your case, you can request they provide you with the relevant court certificate. Once the mediator signs the form, your certificate is available to download securely from your Digital MIAM dashboard. Typically, certificates are available within an hour of the MIAM session, but please confirm this with your mediator at the end of the MIAM.
When you attend a MIAM through Digital MIAM, the mediator explains how family mediation works, listens to your concerns, and assesses whether mediation or another method is appropriate. If there are safety concerns - such as domestic abuse - the mediator will assess for risk. At the end of the MIAM, you’ll be informed of the best next steps based on your situation.
A MIAM is legally required before you can apply to the family court for most child or financial matters. Mediation is often faster, less stressful, and more cost-effective than going to court. The MIAM also helps identify risks and ensures you’re aware of all available options.
